.able Journal is Celebrating its Second Anniversary

Two Years of Publishing Research in Art, Design, and Science through Images

».able« journal is celebrating its second anniversary—an opportunity to reflect on two years dedicated to publishing through images, reinventing ways to make research accessible. By taking part in this initiative as a partner alongside this radically new journal, »Matters of Activity« reaffirms its commitment to interdisciplinary, sensory, and accessible research and celebrates two years of editorial creation and innovation with .able. Since its origins, ».able« has been committed to exploring new forms of publishing and disseminating academic research in the arts, design, and sciences. The journal now features over 20 visual publications available in three languages: French, English, and Spanish.

We are delighted with the unique publications that have already been published by Cluster member Emile de Visscher and look forward to many more contributions from MoA members this year!

By embracing a profoundly original approach—visual, interdisciplinary, multiplatform, and interactive–, ».able« offers a concrete response to the academic landscape marked by the imperative to “publish or perish.” It redefines research publication in art & design through image-based articles that intertwine scholarly codes with artistic and creative processes. Through the integration of multiplatform publishing, which involves digital formats and printed media, ».able« opens new perspectives that resonate with the expectations of art and design researchers while making research more accessible to a contemporary audience beyond the academic ecosystem.

».able« is a project initiated by the Chaire arts & sciences (2017 – 2023) of the École Polytechnique, École des Arts Décoratifs – Université Paris Sciences & Lettres (PSL) and the Fondation Daniel et Nina Carasso. It has been developed by the Reflective Interaction Research Group of EnsadLab (the research laboratory of École des Arts Décoratifs), with primary support since 2024 from the Fondation Daniel et Nina Carasso in France and Spain. Published by Actar Publishers, ».able« has been developed in partnership with more than 40 international academic institutions, including the Royal College of Art (UK), the National Autonomous University of Mexico (MX), New York University (US-NY), the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (GH), and the Intermediatheque, the University Museum of the University of Tokyo (JP).
